Photo by inthenetsportsadacademy.com By Anthony Abele Staff Writer Everyday, from football to soccer, people get injured from concussions to the head and knockouts. But what side effects could occur along with injuries? Last Sunday (November 1st) in a football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks, the Seahawks wide receiver, Ricardo Lockette, played in the 1st half when suddenly one of Dallas’s football players, Jeff Heath, slammed directly into Lockette, knocking him out cold for 5 minutes. As medic staffs came and took him out, he held an L up in the air. The reason this could happen is because of effects to the brain. What could Football have effects in the future if someone gets injured? People could possibly lose brain cells and memory because of concussions. A concussion is temporary unconsciousness caused by a blow to the head. With concussions, anything could happen inside a person's skull and head, like brain cell loss, and nausea. Other side effects could be focus issues, insomnia, trouble balancing, and headaches (www.mensfitness.com). “Most players always get head injuries, or effects during the careers.” Collins said, a Seattle SeaHawk player. When Lockette played against Dallas, he was knocked unconscious for 5 minutes because of injuries. Injuries in football are not to be messed with, as they could also be life-threatening. When comparing football to soccer, the effects can be different. Between getting hit in the face by a soccer ball, or being knocked unconscious for 5 minutes in a football game, injuries are never to be a joke. It could also result in a loss of brain cells, to bodies hurting, or sleep problems. “People are starting to look at the game differently because we're seeing the damage,” said UC Berkeley's Dr. Cindy Chang (www.mercurynews.com). So, when thinking about playing another game of football or soccer, consider this. Be careful about the games and tackles of players and be careful about playing, because there is a possibility that players could have brain loss or sleep problems. Enjoy the games, but watch out for what might happen about all of those side effects. Consider taking breaks during the game (when the chance is right) if someone gets hit really hard when trying to score that touchdown. Comments are closed.
