Staff Writer Two Lake Oswego girls compete in the Little League World Series this year at alpenrose dairy. “Alpenrose really did it up for us this year,” says #10 Ella Privatsky as she explains her experience playing in the LLWS. Playing teams from all over and ending in fourth in the world this Oregon team excelled in this tournament. Two of your fellow classmates at LJHS competed there. Shelby Moore and Ella Privatsky said it was an experience of a lifetime. They also had many supporters cheering them on there like their parents, friends and family. This Oregon Softball team has been playing together for a while now and have learned to play very well together as a team and have become amazing friends and even greater softball players. This year the Little League Softball World Series took place in Oregon with the first games starting on Wednesday August 8th to Monday August 13th. Other teams that competed there like Latin America and Europe-Africa had to travel a long ways to Alpenrose stadium for this huge event. Alpenrose had ESPN cameras catching the players every move as well as the crowd screaming and cheering for their team. These players have practiced and worked all season to get there. They had practices almost every day, practiced at home, and when they had games, they would play to their fullest potential and tried their hardest to get to the spot they were in. By Quinn Hoey
Staff Writer The NFL season is starting which means Monday Night Football, Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, Postseason, and of course the Superbowl. There are tons of new rookies and many upcoming events that will surprise all of America. Even in the first two weeks some amazing things have happened like Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes throwing 10 touchdowns in two games. Also, Bengals Tight End Vontae Davis retiring at halftime. And, when the Cleveland Browns tied to the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-27. Lastly, all of the missed field goals and extra points. When asked about the NFL season starting Henry Crawford said, “ I am so excited, it’s gonna be a good one this year." The NFL started in 1920 and by 1958 the NFL was considered the “Greatest Game Ever Played.” A lot of great things have happened in the 98 years the NFL has been around like “The Catch” by Dwight Clark and Joe Montana which led the 49ers to a superbowl victory and the start of a new dynasty. Also, the interception by Malcolm Butler which won the superbowl for the New England Patriots. Lastly, when David Tyree caught a ball against his helmet which helped the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in the superbowl. “In my opinion the best play in NFL history is the catch during the Superbowl when the Giants played the Patriots,” explains Mr. Kelly. This year is going to be very interesting year in the NFL. Lots of good teams are worthy of a superbowl ring like the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Los Angeles Rams. Also, lots of new players that can change the future of their team like Patrick Mahomes, and Saquon Barkley. “I think the Los Angeles Rams are going to win the superbowl,” explains Wyatt Pope. Staff Writer In 2014 the Oregon Ducks led by quarterback Marcus Mariota made it to the national championship after winning the Rose Bowl. Now just four years later, the Ducks now led by Justin Herbert are 3-0 going into week four of the 2018 college football season. Fans around oregon are very excited to see their Ducks. After the wins over Bowling Green (24-58), Portland State (14-62) and San Jose State (22-35), the Ducks have to play the the 3-0 seventh ranked Stanford Cardinals led by running back Bryce Love. The game will be at Autzen stadium in Eugene Oregon at 5:00 pm PCT on the 22nd of September. This will be one of their first challenges this season. “I’m really excited to see what the new coach can do,” said Mr. Kelly The new coach, Mario Cristobal, has had head coaching experience at FIU or florida international where he turned the program around. He also was the offensive line coach at Alabama for 3 years where he worked with head coaching legend Nick Saban. Oregon is excited to see what he can bring to their Ducks. “I just got to go to my first Oregon game this year and I'm really excited to see Justin Herbert this season.” This is what school custodian Sierra had to say. And with a good reason as Herbert is supposed to be the first quarterback taken in the draft. And one of the most pro ready quarterbacks in college football at 6’,6” and 234 lbs. But Oregon also has inportant players like linebacker Troy Dye and defensive end Jalen Jelks to rely on. “I've always been an Oregon fan even when they're bad but I think they have something good this year. Justin Herbert is a great quarterback with high expectations, so I think that they will go 7-5 this year but I wish I could say better," said Mrs. Steger in the office. The Ducks have kept their hardest opponents for these next couple weeks in Stanford, Cal, Washington, Washington State and UCLA. So will the Ducks pull off another 2014 miracle or will they be the same unranked Ducks from the last 2 or 3 years? We will find out in a couple weeks! By Ella Duke
Staff Writer Lake Oswego, the 12u softball team defeated their way to qualifying themselves into the Little League World Series at Alpenrose Stadium here, in Oregon. 2 players, Ella Privatsky and Shelby Moore played to the win until their last game, finishing 4th in the world. Those 2 star players, are students of Lakeridge Jr. High. “It was really cool, Alpenrose really did it up for us this year! I played 3rd base, but it was very intimidating having ESPN cameras catching every move you made,” said #10, Ella Privatsky as she described her experience on the field. Many supporters, sponsors, and former players lined the stands watching in suspense as every hit and play counted. Kids ran around together with snow cones. “I think it’s pretty cool, because I play baseball, and I know the effort needed to be put in to play your position,” says Michael Czar, student at Lakeridge. Starting on Wednesday, August 8th continuing to Monday, August 13th, the players never gave up fighting to the finals. Oregon District 4 competed against teams from all over the world. Alpenrose Dairy has been a historical little league field from generations forward, built in 1956. Knowing that students from Lakeridge Jr. High competed in a worldwide event, finishing 4th in the world, is something that everyone will remember. By Lukas Allen
