Staff Writer The soccer events of last week were highlighted by Manchester United's domination over Manchester City in the Manchester Derby. This game between Man City and Man United has always been hotly contested. Man City came out strong with the first goal scored by Sergio Aguero in the 8th minute. Man United then responded with a goal six minutes later scored by the left Midfielder Ashley Young. There was some “back and forth” playing until Marouane Fellaini scored a cross header from Ashley Young. With a score of 2-1 of going into the half, United didnt look like a clear winner. After the half, Manchester United took it away with two goals to Manchester City’s one. The first of United’s goals was a through ball that was a questionably offsides pass from Wayne Rooney to Juan Mata. The shot was scored in “nutmeg” fashion, finding the net between the legs of Joe Hart. Manchester United then followed up with another goal, scoring with a header from Chris Smalling and making the score 4-1 Manchester United in the 75th minute. This was a very surprising to fans and players. With another goal at the very end of the game from Man City, the surprising score line of 4-2 was finalized. This extraordinary win over Manchester City had another importance as well. This win put them one point behind Arsenal in the Premier League. Playing the top team in the league this week, Chelsea, will decide the number one spot in league rankings. Comments are closed.
